Centerstream Publications String Ostinato Patterns

String Ostinato Patterns pulls back the curtain on one of the most defining sounds of modern film music – the driving, rhythmic pulse of the orchestral strings. From the subtle tension beneath a thriller to the soaring energy of blockbuster trailers, these repeating patterns are the heartbeat of today’s scores.
This book takes you inside the composer’s process, showing how to transform simple rhythmic ideas into dynamic, evolving textures that propel your music forward. You’ll learn how to create, develop, and orchestrate ostinatos that feel alive – patterns that breathe, shift, and build momentum.
Whether you’re scoring your first short film or crafting cues for the big screen, Screen Ostinato Patterns will help you turn repetition into motion, and motion into emotion – the essence of cinematic writing.
