Eric Copeland: Masterbater – 12-INCH SINGLE

Twelve inch vinyl pressing of this 2013 single. Eric Copeland of Black Dice returns to DFA with ‘Masterbater,’ 11+ minutes of skronking gyrations and prickly samples. Throughout the track, radio-static intrusions and snatches of glossolalic R&B give the impression that Copeland is stuck inside his car, flicking impatiently from channel to channel while a hailstorm pelts the enclosing steel. But ‘Masterbater’ doesn’t devolve into the self-indulgence implied by the title, maintaining propulsion even as conflicting tensions swallow each other whole.
