Plenty of Nothing

Plenty of Nothing by Monika Herzig, arranged by Ryan Fraley, is a straight-ahead modal swing chart drawn from Herzig’s impressive catalog. Set at Grade 3, it features a fast swing feel with a purposeful groove, giving the ensemble room to settle in and shape the time. The opening melodic statement pairs alto 1 and trumpet 2 for a distinctive, lightly textured lead sound. An open solo section allows any instrument to step forward, supported by a note-for-note transcription of the recorded guitar solo for reference and study. Accessible rhythms and supportive orchestration make this a practical and rewarding choice for developing groups exploring modal playing in a swing context. Top trumpet note: B above the staff.
